Meet up for our regular Sunday monthly meetings
- we'll be teaching tunes, breaking out into groups, coming back together for some session playing, and even sharing our afternoon tea online together so there's time to meet and greet all your old friends, and make some new ones
Plus - fortnightly peer-led fiddle sessions on Thursday nights, 7.30pm (Australian time - AEST)
Plus - monthly workshops with Australian and international master fiddlers, many of whom we seldom see in Melbourne - dates to be announced soon
How does the online subscription work?
Meetings will be held via Zoom. Once you have purchased your subscription, we will email you an invitation to become a MSFC Zoom contact. (This is issued manually, so may take up to 24 hours.) Accept the invitation, and you will then receive an email before every meeting, which contains the Zoom meeting link, plus the Meeting ID and Password, for each online event. You then join the meeting using these details, using the Zoom app or Zoom from your browser.
As a minimum requirement you will need a pc/laptop/Mac/Smartphone with microphone/speakers, and an internet connection, to be able to participate. We recommend that you install the Zoom app for the best experience.

Our special guest, Andy Rigby, will host a free harp workshop
(open to anyone, not just harp players )
from 12 -1.pm. on Sunday before the meeting,
Here's a brief bio.
Andy Rigby has a wealth of experience in making, playing and teaching the folk harp. He started with Irish, Scottish and Welsh music, but then delved into the rich culture of Latin American harp music. He has performed at all the major folk festivals in Australia, as a soloist and with Moving Harps, Blackwood, Polly Christie and others. He teaches regularly at the Lake School (Koroit) and helps organise Rosewood Music Camp.
Andy is a great believer in sharing the music and is as happy busking with local kids as being on a big stage.
Monthly meeting format
For the MSFC he will teach some Welsh hornpipes and maybe a surprise tune as well.

3.40pm Announcements, questions, etc. then break
3.55pm Breakout rooms..

Neil and Judy are asking for our support
We are pleased to let you in on our exciting news - yes, we are making a 2nd album of work inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson. We know you can hardly wait. Because 12 RLS songs is simply not enough. Not in anyone's book.
The project is based on RLS prayers written in Samoa for the family, which Neil has turned into poems and then into songs. The prayers have a humaistic slant, mostly, with lessons for daily life. The title song has these words:
As the windmill needs the wind, as the clay needs a potter's hand
Let us hear your voice, and let us find your guidance through this land.
We've been using the lockdown time to work on the project - Neil has been recording the music here at the Great Hall of the People, with Mischa Herman, and Judy has been working on the fundraising side. Nothing new there!
What is new, is that all the musos we have lined up are out of work. Every single one of them has lost every single gig - and that applies to us too - so we are thrilled to be able to bring them some paid work, through the generosity of our community. If you are able to donate, and every bit helps, we would love you to do it soon as a generous supporter has offered to match gifts up to $1000 until 27 May. Here's the link (again).

Stringmania Camp Presents
17 June and 24 June
Session 10 and 11 : Adam Sutherland - Interactive tune writing workshop, part 1
Adam will be running a two-part tune writing workshop. In the first session, he will share some of his writing process, tips, tricks and stories, and will give you a tune writing prompt (a handful of notes to start with, or an idea, a mission, a goal…) for homework. In the second session, the new tunes you have written will be explored, performed and discussed, and Adam will offer feedback and support in your tune writing endeavors! This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from one of the biggest names in trad tune writing today.
Regular sessions run twice a week for approximately one hour – Wednesdays from 7:30pm and Saturdays from 11am (AEST) - for as long and as often as we can. The time on the event will adjust itself according to your time zone.
